One of the nations toughest races begins and ends in Silverton this weekend.  This race is 100 miles over mostly single track trail which goes from Silverton, to Lake City, back over to Ouray and then over to Telluride and back to Silverton.  It has a highest elevation above 14,000 feet and over 30,000 feet of elevation gain (and loss.)

If you see any runners heading back in to town over the weekend stop what your doing and give them a round of applause and some words of encouragement.  What these people are doing is nothing short of a mind boggling accomplishment.  Only 146 are running and they train like crazy just to get here, some of them run full marathons at high elevation nearly every day to prepare.

NEW THIS YEAR!

Check out this awesome real time map of their progress:

Seems like they put some kind of tracking chip on all the runners so we can watch the entire event from our computers.  Keep in mind the winner should be rolling into town some time early Saturday Morning so if you want to cheer them on just head over to the school.
